"Reading is the Foundation for Learning," shared Ms. Taormina, who came to share with Roanoke.
(December 18, 2013) It's nice to get gifts during the holidays. It's super nice to give gifts during the holidays. That's what the Riverhead Country Day School did. The school had received a surplus of free books from their Scholastic Book Fair. They decided to share their bounty with Kelly Schultheis' first grade class at the Roanoke Avenue School just prior to the holiday recess. (Kelly's two preschool children attend the Riverhead Country Day School.) It was a great choice. These Roanoke first graders LOVED their packets of books and little stuffed animals/reading companions.
One little girl in particular, Elena, was very excited. It was Elena's birthday! She had looked longingly at the Scholastic Book list just the day before and told her teacher that she wished she could get the book Pinkalicious. Randomly, when it became her turn to receive a gift of books, she received this book. Wow! Goosebumps.
The guest readers, Ms Taormina and Ms. Rodriguez, preceded the gift giving by reading two books to the class (If You Take A Mouse to School and If You Give a Pig a Pancake)--in both English and Spanish. Some of the children, who can read in both English and Spanish, got one book in English and one in Spanish. They were very excited about that.
This was the second year that the Riverhead Country Day School donated books to RCSD students. Last year they gifted students at the Middle School with books.
THANK YOU!
